Steeps Tea House

Every Wednesday after our yoga sessions, a few friends and I go to Steeps tea house for a relaxing cup of hot tea. Steeps is an adorable little nook located at 12411 Stony Plain Road. The minute you walk, you feel as though you’ve gone back in time. It is decorated with vintage furniture, from 70’s style aluminum kitchen tables to garage sale worthy velvet chesterfields. You pick out your tea flavor from a wall of shelves filled with loose-leaf tea canisters. I highly recommend the pumpkin spice black tea. Once you’ve put in your order, grab a vintage tea cup and saucer from the mix matched collection, and grab a comfy seat. Whether you go alone or with friends, you will love the laid-back vibe of this Edmonton treasure.

Tim hortons

Everbody loves Tim hortons! Its a nice place to go and chill with friends . Its got a good atmoshphere, good food, good service for the most part fast service, the best coffee and hot chocolate too!! If your ever just looking for a place to relax and kick back with friends or just looking for a quick snack or coffee Tim Hortons is the perfect place, if you haven't been to tim hortons yet i recommend going!

Iron Horse

Iron Horse located on the corner of Gateway and Whyte Ave. Over all is a fun place to go. It has good atmosphere, big dance floor, comfy booths and good music(top 40's). The bartenders are usually quick and efficent with what we order, but this one time me and a couple friends went to Iron Horse and ordered a couple drinks from this one bartender who was wasted! We were paying seperatly so we first ordered two bottle caps we had to ask her a couple times before she actually understood what we wanted and when she went to pour the drinks she kept spilling the drinks and dumping the drinks on the table. She also gave us the wrong amount of change back. When we went to ask her for more drinks she looked all dazed and wobbled away and we had to wait for another bartender! That was my bad experience at Iron Horse besides that one night Iron Horse is a fun place to be at!

Jolly Good!

I went out with a friend recently to catch the new Sherlock Holmes movie at City Center Mall. Before we caught the movie we also decided to get something to eat and he suggested that in spirit of the movie we were going to see we should go to the Sherlock Holmes pub located downtown on Rice Howard Way. I absolutely adored this little pub.

When I walked in I was greeted with live music and the smell of cooking food and hard wood floors that creaked when I walked. It felt like I was walking into another time period and I loved it. I ordered a large soup and some drinks, and the service was lively and entertaining. The Pub itself was covered in all sorts of Sherlock Holmes memorabilia including the recent movie’s new poster hanging proudly above the stage.

If you’re looking for a lovely little place with high energy to sit and enjoy the company of friends there is no better place you can sniff out with that detective nose of yours!

Boston Pizza

I was Bouston Pizza not to long ago for a friends birthday party. The atmosphere was homey and the service was good! a couple of us had the bandera bread as an appitizer, bandera bread is one of my favorite things to eat at bouston pizza, as well as the cactus cut potatoes of course! Over all bouston Pizza is one of the best places to just go and chill with friends!

Tony Roma's

I recently went to Tony Romas at west edmonton mall. We were waited on right away, the service was good our waitress always made sure our drinks were full and that the food was brought out quickly. We got the beef ribs and i must say they were the best ribs i've had in awhile! There was so much food on the plate, you got ribs aswell as two other side orders. Definatly filled me up. I recommend this place to people who just feel like having a good evening and a good meal!

Party like the Irish today!

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! If you’re looking for a party, you have to check out The Druid. This awesome pub is located on Jasper Avenue at 11606! They will be having Irish dancers and lots of alcohol! After all, you have to party like the Irish today!

The Druid is a comfortable pub with spacey dance floors, I’ve always liked this place and go to it frequently with my friends when we’re feeling frisky for a dance night on the town. I have been here for countless Friday nights and have loved every time I’ve been there. The people are great and the music is better than most places that I’ve visited!

Not only is tonight a special event night but they have many events nearly everyday.

Eh Mambo~ Eh Italiano~

Eh Mambo~ Eh Italiano~

There is one place in Edmonton that never fails to fill my tummy and make me happy about it. Chianti Café is a Italian restaurant famous for the food, homely atmosphere and great artwork on the walls. It’s located on Whyte Avenue and is modeled after the old theater districts.

I came here recently for a birthday party and was pleasantly surprised as always by the service and food. The dishes are one hundred percent Italian and the pasta is to die for. If you’re ever in the mood for something meaty I highly recommend the Gnocchi. That is a potatoes dumpling pasta with your choice of meaty sauces, which I prefer to have mushroom and beef sauce!

While you’re there make sure to check out the wide variety of Italian soda they have too! The Lemonada is bubbly and delicious!

What did Genghis Khan eat?

When I’m hungry and want to have fun there is one place that I can always go to and eat and have a great time with friends or family. The Mongolian Grill! “What did Genghis Khan eat? Whatever he damn well wanted!”

The Mongolian Grill is located in downtown Edmonton close to Jasper Avenue and Grant MacEwan. There are locations at 10104 - 109th street and a alternative on at 3345 Calgary Trail. Easily located for lunch or dinner.

What’s unique about this place for me is the wide variety of choice and creativity that comes with your meal. You pick every single item that you want in your meal and once you have composed your stir fry it is then cooked right before your eyes by cooks on a large open stove! It’s a great show!

I love this place because of that very atmosphere. I always try to book my dinner events here simply cause I want to eat like I own the place, which is just what Genghis Khan did! And at this grill you can surely eat whatever you damn well want!

If theres an event... It is at Edmonton Event center!

Edmonton Event Center is located in West Edmonton Mall. Whenever the event center is hosting an event or venue they do a spectacular job. The Edmonton Event Centre is huge; on the first floor they have the dance floor, the stage, 2 VIP sections with a bar, 2 others bars (one located back of the dance floor with seating and one located on the side.) , they also have 4 bathrooms! On the second floor they have one bar. The third floor is at the back of the centre and has seating and another bar. On the forth floor they have seating that looks over the center. Like I said its huge! The service, in my opinion, is really good! The bartenders get to you pretty fast and for how loud it gets, they get the orders right!
The event that I enjoyed the best was when David Guetta came. The place was packed; bumping sholder to sholder. The music was terrific; if you enjoy listening to house and electro. The service, yet again, was good!
I was going to buy tickets to go see Pitbull, a reggaeton artist, but it was cancled. I was sooo dissapointed. Other then that, if someone you enjoy is going to be at the Edmonton Event Center, GO!

Flow Lounge

I went out on Saturday for a friend’s birthday. When they told me they rented out a bar, I assumed it was going to be at a curling rink. I was pleasantly surprised. Flow lounge is an intimate drinking establishment located at 11845 Wayne Gretzky Dr. It was a great place! The staff could have been the best part of Flow lounge. The manager arranged to have karaoke set up for the party because our birthday girl is a big fan. The bartenders were very friendly and made great suggestions for celebration shooters. The food was delicious as well. I ordered the nachos for a little midnight snack and ended up enlisting the help of the entire table to finish the giant plate. It was a great night and I will defiantly be returning.

Do you have money for the Bank ?

The Bank Ultra Lounge is located on 10765 Jasper Ave. It is one of my favorite spots to go. They play electro, dance and/or house music.
The lines to get into the club do get ridiculous around 11pm and it is sometimes hard to get it. When and if you get in they have a fairly high cover charge. The only way to get out of paying the cover charge is if you are VIP or with a 'party'.

The Bank has a strick dress code. They require you to wear business attire, casual business or trendy. They like thier clients to look the best that they can. I believe that is one of the main reasons I love to go; to dress like a superstar!
They also serve food and drinks. You could also get bottle service for ur 'party' as well. It is expensive, but what bar or club isnt? The service is fairly good. The waistress was quick with the drinks and the bar tenders get to you pretty fast. I never even thought to complain. I always have a good time at The Bank Ultra Lounge!

Starlight, play me some music tonight...

The starlight room is a fantastic venue for bands to play at. Its a smaller place which makes it seem like your closer to the acts than you would feel in a place like rexal. Depending on the show there is usually 2-4 bars in the building. There are two floors in which the venue can have two different shows going on at the same time! The acoustics are especially good, in a place where you would expect poor sound quality. After they play the bands can chill in the crowd and talk to their adoring fans! If a band you like plays the starlight, surely check it out!

Do all Unions have a Hall?

Another weekend adventure lead me and my friends to the Union Hall on argyle and 99th street. There we were to attend a friends birthday. None of us had ever been to this venue and were quite nervous about the way things would role. Upon arriving we saw what was like one gigantic party! It was great!! Yes a lot of the music was not to my liking, but they even played some songs in which i knew and enjoyed. "Don't Stop Beleiving" being one of them! We quikly found out about a special event that happened on saturday nights and were pleasantly surprised! It was wet T-shirt night. Which for most guys is hard to resist. I was a good time, i may go back there again, and i recomend others to do the same!

More than just fluid in this lounge

A friend and i went to a local lounge last weekend known as the "Fluid Lounge". It was a very well designed establishment. We arrived there before ten thirty so we didnt have to pay the annoying cover charge of most bars. The interior was in a nice shade of blue and the staff there was very nice. We ordered a plate of their buffalo hot wings. Might i say that these hot wings were fan-freaking-tastic!!! Unfortunatly the portion was a little small, but for what the plate lacked, flavor made up for. By the end of the night my stomach and taste buds were going " YUM YUMS!!!" Highly recomend this place for you wing lovers, or anyone who loves the nightlife scene.

The Keg

First of all, let me say that I was weaned off the bottle on steak and potatoes. That being said, there are few “steak experiences” that I would actually feel compelled to blog about. Luckily for The Keg, I have no problem raving about my dinning experience last Friday. As soon as I walked in, I was excited to be there. The décor feels like you’re staying at an aunt’s fancy wood cabin where she asks you not to touch the chandelier; it was classy without being too stuffy. The service and food were amazing. I ordered the steak oscar; a sirloin topped with shrimp, scallops, asparagus and béarnaise sauce. It has completely ruined any enjoyment I may have had from my frozen farm steak. Overall, it was a great “steak experience” that I would defiantly recommend to others.

Ruth's Chris

Ruth's Chris is a very elegant restaurant which is more of the 'steakhouse' type, but the best in its class. The downtown location used to be a bank and they restored it to what it is today; Because my party was fairly big, we were seated in a private room that was once a large vault, which was a unique experience. Their menu is different in a sense where you order and pay for one item at a time individually, opposed to a regular entree. The food is incredible and you feel like a king when you're there. The only downfall is the price, which isn't even shown on the menu. Highly recommended if your celebrating or just in the mood for a fancy dinner.

Mikado

A place I like to eat out often is a Japanese Cuisine restaurant called Mikado. They have several locations throughout the city, but I enjoy the new one in the west end. The setting is aesthetically pleasing and it's a very welcoming, warm place. Hot, moist, scented hand towels are already waiting for you before you begin eating. One can eat at a booth with white leather, at the back bar where the cooks perform in front of you, or even in a private room that is sectioned off. Mikado offers many features such as Tsunami Salad, Mango Tango Rolls, Isobe Chicken, Dragon Eyes, etc. The service is amazing and it's a great place to escape the western culture we're all used to. I recommend it to everyone to have some food your not used to eating!

Kai Asian Grill

Kai is an inspired asian grill located on 10909 Jasper ave. It is absolutely beautiful inside. Their decorations are all asian inspired. The bathroom stalls even fog up when u locked the door. The decorations made the restaurant look fairly expensive; and it was. I ordered the sushi and it was delicious. It was deffently over priced; 3 pieces for 8$.
The service, I have to say, was terrible. She was snotty and it did not seem like she even wanted to be there. She made us rush by making us order early and when my friend was trying to make her laugh or put a smile on her face she shrug it aside and walked away. Very rude! I certainly did not give her the tip she wanted or was expecting for that matter. It was my friends birthday and the way that the waitress treated us and rushed us , she deserved nothing.
Even though it is beautiful and well decorated and they might even have the best sushi in town, Kai Asian Grill is not worth it. I will not be returning unless it is something worth wild.

Moxie's

A couple weeks ago I went to Moxie's Restaurant with a friend for dinner. I haven't been there in quite some time and it was a nice break from the places I usually attend. Right when we walked in, we received great service and the waiter even allowed us to sit where we wanted. My friend and I had a couple drinks to start; she had a fancy margarita while I had a beer. Afterwards, I enjoyed a curry rice bowl, and my friend had a salad...boring right? Overall, we had a great time and I'm looking forward to going back again in the future.

Julios Bario

Julios Bario is a fantastic little mexican restaurant located on 10405 82 Ave ( White Ave). It is a small restaurant but you feel a great mexican vibe as soon as you walk in. The food is fantastic! They have a creative menu with many items to choose from. Their signature drink is the 'Original Bulldog'. Its consists of 1 bottle of Coronita, 2 oz. of Tequila and Lime Slush. It is absolutely delicious! My favorite thing to order is the nachos. It could feed up to 4 poeple. The portions are big and you will leave full. The service was good. They came fast with the food and drinks and whenever ur glass was empty the waitress is the first on the scene to ask if you would like another. It is the perfect place to go with friends and family or even to go on a date. I really enjoy going there and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a little piece of Mexico.

Good so far!

This is good so far. After reading about Vi's for Pies, I'm hungry for pie.

Vi’s for Pies

Last weekend I went to a really nice little café called Vi’s for Pies. It’s located at 13408 Stony Plain Road! This little restaurant is great for late night endeavors for those with a sweet tooth or just hunting for a nice hot cup of java. I was having one of those rather annoying nights where friends became enemies and I was itching for something to sooth me. My best friend requested we go for some key lime pie and a coffee, even if it was almost midnight. So, we headed out.

When we got there I was pleasantly surprised that it was comfortable homey. It had nice lighting that was low enough to give it a jazzy feel. Light music played overhead and the smell of sweets was in the air. We ordered out pies and sat near the window. The service was nice and friendly; it was comforting to see smiling faces.

The pie piece I got was huge, much larger than I expected! So you definitely get your money’s worth. I couldn’t even finish the portion I had but it was delicious nonetheless.

So if you’re looking for a late night coffee shop and a hot chocolate this is definitely the place for you.

Whats in Edmonton?

I love to go out and enjoy the night life with friends and family. Edmonton is full of restaurants and entertainment. There are lots of things to do here. So, I will be hitting the streets of Edmonton to see what is good and what is not so good. I have already been to a couple of places here and I have had good and bad experiences; but I have learned to love the city for all that it has to offer.

New City Suburbs

First blog here from YUM YUMS 101!!!!!! Last Saturday, on a adventurous night. I went to a club on Jasper Avenue called New City! This is a specialized club in which people of the underground nature feel at home. Because they have tapped into this certain market, they have been able to create a successful business. They have nightly events, and great service. When i went there, it was techno night. The amount of people that attended was finominal. Over all, it was a pleasant experience. I recomend checkin it out!!
